Inclusive Montessori Learning at CMP
California Montessori Project (CMP) is a public charter school committed to providing an inclusive Montessori learning environment where students with and without disabilities learn together. We believe that strong partnerships with families and clear communication are essential to student success.
CMP operates as a Montessori program in which students receive instruction in general education Montessori classrooms. Special education and related services are individualized based on each child’s unique needs and may be delivered through a combination of consultation, push-in support, and small-group and/or individual pull-out instruction, as determined by the Individualized Education Program (IEP) team.
Our Commitment to Students with Disabilities
CMP is a public charter school and follows all state and federal special education laws, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
This means:
- Students may be referred for special education evaluation at any time
- Eligible students receive special education and related services
- Services, supports, and placement decisions are made by the IEP team, which includes parents
- Enrollment at CMP does not limit a student’s rights to evaluation, services, or supports
Instruction and Services
At CMP, inclusive practices mean that students are members of general education Montessori classrooms and school communities first and foremost, while receiving individualized support as needed.
-
At CMP:
- Students learn together in general education Montessori classrooms and are considered general education students first
- Students with disabilities do not necessarily receive all special education services within the general education classroom
- Special education services may be delivered through a combination of consultation, push-in support, and small-group/individual pull-out instruction, as determined by the IEP team
- We do not currently operate Special Day Classes (SDC), self-contained classrooms, or Functional Life Skills (FLS) programs on our campuses
- Services and supports are individualized and based on each child’s unique needs, as outlined in their Individualized Education Program (IEP)
CMP employs credentialed Education Specialists and related service providers who work collaboratively with Montessori classroom teachers to ensure students can access learning across settings. -
Special education services at CMP are individualized and determined by each student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP) team.
Services may include:
- Consultation between Education Specialists, related service providers, and Montessori classroom teachers
- Push-in services are provided within the Montessori classroom
- Pull-out services delivered in a small-group and/or individual setting
- Push-in or pull-out related services such as speech therapy, occupational therapy, counseling, and other supports
While CMP does not currently operate SDC or self-contained programs, we collaborate closely with our SELPA partners to ensure access to the full continuum of special education services and placements, as required by law.
Finding the Right Fit for Your Child
Every child is unique, and families know their children best. Montessori environments can be a strong match for many learners, particularly those who are developing independence and self-management skills.
Some students benefit from additional support to access a Montessori environment successfully. When this is the case, IEP teams work collaboratively with families to determine appropriate services, accommodations, and strategies.
