Application and Enrollment
Application and Enrollment
California Montessori Project (CMP) admits new students each year through a public, random lottery.
Once all seats have been filled, remaining applicants are automatically placed on a waitlist for future openings.
You are welcome to apply to multiple CMP campuses!
-
- TK: Must turn 4 on or before September 1, 2026
- K: Must turn 5 on or before September 1, 2026
- 1st Grade: Must turn 6 on or before September 1, 2026
-
- Lottery applications are submitted through Avela and must be completed by the child's legal parent or guardian.
- The open application period runs January through March. During this time, families will be asked to create an Avela account. Be sure to set your communication preferences to receive both email and text notifications.
- A separate application is required for each child you wish to include in the lottery. All sections of the application must be completed in order for Avela to accept it.
- Any enrollment preferences selected will be reviewed and validated by the Registrar. Requested uploads are mandatory for eligible preferences.
- Once submitted, applications will be automatically entered into the lottery pool and randomized through Avela in accordance with CMP’s Enrollment Preferences outlined in our charter documents:
- Children of staff
- Siblings with Montessori experience of existing students or CMP graduates
- Siblings of existing students or CMP graduates
- Inter-campus transfers
- Children who have a least one year prior Montessori experience (public or private)
- District residents
- All other applicants
- The week following the lottery, the application window will reopen across all CMP campuses for all grade levels. New applicants will be added to the waitlist in the order received, prioritized by eligibility factors (e.g., siblings, Montessori experience, in-district, etc.).
-
- After the published application deadline, CMP conducts its annual public lottery for grades TK-8.
- Only applications submitted by the deadline are eligible for the lottery (see the lottery timeline).
- The public, random lottery draw is conducted in compliance with California charter law and CMP’s Enrollment Preferences as outlined in CMP charter documents.
- The public, random lottery draw is conducted live by a member of CMP’s Central Administration Team using the Avela platform.
-
- Following the Lottery, Student Services and the Registrar verify the lottery results.
- Families of selected students will receive an offer notification by email through Avela. Please ensure your Avela account includes a valid email address.
- Families have three (3) days to accept or decline an offer. If no response is received within this timeframe, the offer will be automatically revoked.
- To avoid missing notifications, set your Avela preferences to receive both email and text alerts, and check your spam or junk folders regularly.
- If you applied to multiple campuses and receive offers from more than one, you must choose one campus within three (3) days.
- Applications for campuses ranked higher than the one you accept (but where no offer was made) will remain waitlisted until school begins. Once school is in session, all outstanding waitlisted applications will be revoked once a student is enrolled at a CMP campus.
- Exception: Current CMP students who have attended a CMP school for at least one year may remain on the waitlist for their preferred campus as a transfer student.
- Students must remain at their selected campus for at least one full school year before becoming eligible for transfer. Transfer requests are not guaranteed and must be made through the lottery process.
-
- After accepting an offer, families will receive an Avela communication with instructions to complete registration.
- If registration is not completed by the stated due date, the offer will be revoked. Registration is considered complete once all required forms and documents have been submitted and verified by staff.
- Birth documents and up-to-date immunization records are required for all incoming students. Registration cannot be finalized without these documents.
- An oral health assessment will be needed for Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten students, as well as first grade students enrolling in public school for the first time.
- Once registration is complete, new families will receive an email invitation to join ParentSquare, CMP’s communication platform. After registering in ParentSquare, families will be asked to complete a Student Profile.
- In June, new families will receive an invitation to create an Aeries account, CMP’s student information system. This account is required to complete beginning-of-year forms, mid-year re-enrollment, and to access report cards, testing, and attendance information.
-
- During the lottery, each campus may fill all open seats and establish a waitlist. Waitlists are maintained according to the Enrollment Preferences outlined in CMP’s charter documents.
- As openings occur at a campus and grade level, CMP will continue to contact applicants in the order determined by the Avela lottery waitlists.
- Openings may occur prior to the start of the school year, during the school year, and up until the next lottery. Waitlists do not carry over to the following school year under any circumstances.
If you feel that you have been discriminated against in any way during the lottery or enrollment process, you are encouraged not to enroll or persuaded to disenroll or transfer your CMP students. Please click on the link regarding your school of choice below.
